The Member of the European Parliament from the European People’s Party (EPP), Javier Zarzalejos, chairs the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, from which he oversees regulations such as the Migration and Asylum Pact, which will come into effect in June, or the Returns Regulation, approved by the European Parliament at the end of March. In addition to Europe’s migration policy, the parliamentarian – who is also the director of the FAES Foundation – discusses with La Vanguardia other issues such as the need to protect minors in the digital world, including the regulation of influencers; or the change of government in Hungary.

The same weekend that Barcelona hosted the progressive summit and an event with various Latin American leaders in defense of Democracy, in Madrid, the presence of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado stood out. She received an award from the Community of Madrid from its president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and met in the preceding hours with both the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and that of Vox, Santiago Abascal, as well as the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez Almeida.
