A woman and her two minor children drowned this Wednesday in the dam of the Navarrese town of Roncal, a bathing area, in the Esca river.

According to official sources, the incident occurred around 16:39 hours and mobilized personnel from the Navascués Firefighters, a medicalized helicopter, a medical team, a basic life support ambulance (BLS), two advanced life support ambulances (ALS), as well as agents from the Foral Police and the Civil Guard.
Emergency services could do nothing to save the lives of the three victims, residents of the Roncal Valley.

In a statement, the Roncal City Council indicated that it has decided to declare three days of official mourning, during which the official flag will be flown at half-mast and no official events will be held during those 72 hours.
“In light of the tragic death of three neighbors from the same family that occurred this afternoon, the Roncal City Council wants to express on behalf of the entire town its dismay at the incident, its solidarity with the relatives and friends of the deceased, and its willingness to assist the affected families with any necessary procedures,” the Council stated.
