That Primavera Sound is a festival different from the rest is demonstrated by things like what happened this Saturday, when Olivia Rodrigo surprisingly announced her presence at the festival just a few, few weeks after performing at the Grec festival, “the most beautiful stage I’ve ever played on,” as the Californian artist stated.

Primavera Sound faces this Saturday, June 6, its last main day at Parc del Fòrum with a program headlined by Gorillaz (1.15 h), The xx (23.40) and My Bloody Valentine (22.05), three of the most anticipated names of an edition that has brought together some of the most influential figures in contemporary music. To these, we must add a last-minute surprise, announced by the artist herself and later confirmed by the festival. It is Olivia Rodrigo, the American singer whose concert will take place at 22.15.

There was something poetic about Robert Smith’s appearance last night on the Primavera’s Estrella Damm stage, the same one that succumbed on Thursday to the climatic gale and left musicians and fans stranded. The recorded sound of rain and thunder preceded the appearance of the veteran vocalist with painted lips and tangled hair, a Shakespearean neighbor of Caliban and Sycorax, freshly arrived from the island of The Tempest to appease the bad spirits of the previous day with the music of Songs of the lost worlds.

Primavera Sound is closer to reaching the glory of streaming its concerts and positioning itself at Coachella’s level in terms of live viewings. For the first time, the three days of performances at the Fòrum –from June 4 to 6– that can be followed worldwide will include all the headliners of this edition, with the exception of My Bloody Valentine who, for reasons that have not been disclosed, have decided not to participate. The broadcast can be followed for the first time on ‘La Vanguardia’s website, as well as Twitch and Amazon Prime.

The rain was very heavy, mixed with wind, during the performance of groups like the American band Geese. The wind caused water to reach inside the stage; the Americans were literally soaked. And just five minutes before Geese finished their concert, it was suspended, as were all the festival’s performances. An announcement was made over the PA system to everyone about the suspension of performances until further notice. Among the concerts that have been definitively suspended are those of Alex G and Mac DeMarco.
