Aitana and El Mago Pop buy the Aquitània theater in Barcelona

Singer Aitana and Antonio Díaz, El Mago Pop, partner to acquire the Aquitània theater in Barcelona, on Sarrià Avenue. The venue has about 325 seats and has gone through various uses in recent decades, especially as the headquarters of the Filmoteca de Catalunya for 20 years (1991-2011).

The press release announcing it highlights that it is “an emblematic space of the city, which begins a new stage with the vocation to contribute to the growth of the performing arts and strengthen Barcelona’s role as one of the great cultural references in Europe.”

Likewise, “with this initiative, both artists make a firm commitment to the performing arts and to their city, promoting a project designed to generate new opportunities for creators and professionals in the sector, favor the production and exhibition of new shows, and contribute to strengthening Barcelona’s cultural fabric.” 

“The project is born with the will to support talent, promote the professionalization of the performing arts, boost job creation, and continue consolidating Barcelona as a reference city for culture and creativity,” the statement highlights.

Aitana states: “Antonio and I had been dreaming for a long time about doing a project together and we can’t think of a more beautiful way to start than by betting on culture and the future of the performing arts. We deeply believe in the future of theaters and for us it is a privilege to be able to contribute to preserving and growing such a special space as the Aquitània theater. We are very excited to give it a new life and we will work so that Barcelona feels proud of this project.” 

For his part, Antonio Díaz says: “We are very excited about this project. We deeply believe in the transformative power of culture and it is a privilege to be able to invest in it right here in our land. We hope to contribute our grain of sand so that Barcelona continues to be an international reference for the performing arts and so that more and more artists and professionals find here a place to develop their talent,” revealing that he “had never had a partner” in any of his projects. 

Regarding the theatrical plans of El Mago Pop, his interest in the Regina theater has recently become known, whose managers until now definitively closed its doors this past weekend.
