Pedro Sánchez has guaranteed that he will mobilize “all necessary resources” to provide an “immediate response” to the new migration crisis unleashed in Ceuta, as demanded by the president of the autonomous city, Juan Jesús Vivas, and the first consequence is that the Government announced this afternoon that it will deploy the Army to face the serious situation, after a flood of thousands of people crossed the border from Morocco into Spain.

The Executive has thus announced that the Armed Forces will reinforce the Civil Guard “in the exercise of their powers and those that may be necessary to maintain security in the city of Ceuta.”
The mobilized Army personnel “will be coordinated by the operations command and will support the Civil Guard.”
The Executive strengthens the forces of the Civil Guard and the National Police on the ground, and also sends the ship ‘Duque de Ahumada’
At the same time, the Government has also already reinforced the presence of the Civil Guard on the ground. To the 60 personnel of the Reserve and Security Group (ARS) permanently assigned to border surveillance, an additional platoon – 20 personnel – has already been added, and in the coming hours two more platoons, with 40 personnel, will join.
The Ceuta Citizen Security unit will also be reinforced with 30 civil guards from different units in Andalusia. And two groups of divers – eight personnel – from the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) of Andalusia will be sent.
To the Maritime Service vessels assigned in Ceuta – two medium vessels and four zodiac-type vessels – the ship Duque de Ahumada will also join, arriving in Ceuta in the early hours of July 31.

And in the coming days, five boat skippers, three mechanic-sailors, and drone pilots will join the Maritime Service. Meanwhile, the Air Service will be reinforced with a helicopter.
As for the National Police, the General Commissariat of Foreigners and Borders has sent a foreign affairs team to Ceuta, composed of six people, to support the registration and documentation tasks.
In Citizen Security, the group of the Police Intervention Unit (UIP) and the personnel of the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) of Ceuta will double shifts, through the provision of overtime work.
Also this Thursday, three UIP teams from Seville have joined, to which, in the coming days, the teams from the Central UIP and the Málaga UIP will be added, until a total of 200 UIP and UPR personnel are completed, who will be specifically deployed in citizen security tasks in Ceuta.
