“Tech companies depend on us; if we stop collaborating, it has an effect”

The Spanish-Mexican philosopher Carissa Véliz burst onto the public debate in 2020 with her book Privacy Is Power (Debate), in which she detailed how governments and companies continuously obtain data from us in a surveillance society. Next June she will publish Prophecy (Debate), which the author herself defines as “a reflection on the uses and abuses of prediction, from the Oracle of Delphi to artificial intelligence, because although the technology is very different, the political role it is playing is actually very similar.”

The autonomous communities halt tax cuts, except Madrid

Almost all autonomous communities under the common regime are halting the tax cuts they approved in previous years. The years are coming to an end when the prevailing trend was to approve reductions in transferred taxes, such as in the IRPF, inheritance and donations, or wealth tax. The current trend is quite the opposite, warns the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (Airef) in its latest report.
