A Ukrainian drone struck a residential building in Moscow for the first time in several years this Monday, just ten kilometers from the Kremlin, according to the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergey Sobyanin. The attack in the capital adds to other drones that Ukraine had launched against the oil terminal at the port of Primorsk, one of Russia’s main export ports with the capacity to handle one million barrels of oil per day, in the Baltic Sea, and two tankers of the Russian ghost fleet in waters near the entrance to the Russian port of Novorossiysk, in the Black Sea.

The Moscow drone struck one of the towers of a residential building known as ‘Don na Mosfilmovskoi’, according to the mayor’s post on his MAX channel, the Russian Telegram. He noted that there were no casualties from the attack and added that Moscow’s air defenses repelled the attack of two other drones flying towards Moscow. The images released show the damage to the building’s facade and some of the windows caused by the drone.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova+ reported that the attack was carried out by a Ukrainian kamikaze drone of the FP-1 type, with a flight range of up to 1,600 kilometers and a maximum payload of 120 kilograms of explosives. “This is the first documented case of kamikaze drone attacks near the Kremlin in a long time,” the outlet indicated.
According to the Efe agency, several explosions from drone shootdowns were heard south of Moscow around 04:00 local time. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on its MAX account the downing of 117 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over 14 Russian regions, including Moscow.

Russia fired a barrage of 155 long-range drones against the Ukrainian rear in the east, according to the Ukrainian Air Force’s morning report. Of the total drones, 135 were neutralized by Ukrainian air defenses over various regions in the north, south, and east of Ukraine. Another 14 drones could not be intercepted and struck ten different locations in the country not specified by the Air Force, which also reported the fall of fragments of downed drones in four other places.
Announcement of a two-day truce
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced this Monday a truce in Ukraine for May 8 and 9 to commemorate the anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.
Moscow hopes Kyiv will follow its example and respect the ceasefire during Friday and Saturday, the day on which a military parade will take place in Red Square.
The proposal to declare a truce in Ukraine for May 9 was made last week by Putin during a phone conversation with the U.S. leader, Donald Trump. Putin and Zelensky have already agreed on two similar brief truces in 2025. However, Ukraine insists on a ceasefire of at least 30 days, which is rejected by Moscow.
