The United Nations (UN) is running out of money, and the United States is one of the main reasons. President Donald Trump shows little interest in the multilateral institution and even muses about creating a substitute made to his greater glory.
Between the Andalusian elections of last May 17 and the indictment of former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the parties allied in Sumar raised the purpose of regrouping to turn around future prospects in which they see themselves dragged by the decline of the national left against the right and the far right. Miguel Tellado, secretary general of the PP, traveled this Saturday to Bilbao to preside over an event with members of the Basque Popular Party and his speech focused on the corruption cases surrounding Pedro Sánchez and the support of the PNV for the Government. In this regard, he warned the Basque nationalists and Aitor Esteban that it is not enough to call for elections, but they have to take a step forward: “Why don’t they provoke them?”.
The Minister of Education, Esther Niubó, has expressed that she is “very happy and very satisfied” with the preliminary agreement reached last night between the Government and the unions to resolve the educational conflict in Catalonia. In an interview on ‘El Suplement’, from Catalunya Ràdio, Niubó described the pact as a “giant step” for the educational community, which had been “underfunded” during the last decades in Catalonia, she admitted.
“Clean everything up.” That was the mandate Leire Díez received from the PSOE or, at least, that’s how she expresses it. The plot uncovered by the judge of the National Court Santiago Pedraz and led by the party’s former number 3 Santos Cerdán had a coordinated plan set: to go against judges, prosecutors, and civil guards to protect the Government and the PSOE. The organization had a series of objectives marked and the instruments they had to use for the success of their mission. First of all, it should be said that, despite the orchestration of the plan and the payment for it, successes were notably absent because to this day none of their objectives have been achieved, although along the way there have been dark threads.
Eight years ago, the deliberation and vote on the motion of no confidence against President Mariano Rajoy took place in the Congress of Deputies. The first and so far the only motion of no confidence that has succeeded in democratic Spain.
The groups that supported Pedro Sánchez’s investiture in 2023 are beginning to show clear signs of fatigue regarding their relationship with the Government due to the alleged corruption schemes being investigated by the National Court that threaten the Executive. Faced with the possibility of an abrupt end to the legislature, no one wants to appear in the photo alongside the socialists or is already seeking a prudent distance to act as a firewall.
Ukraine needs Europe to continue resisting Russian aggression. It is an obvious and recognized fact. But what if it were also the other way around? If Kyiv has been able for more than four years to stand up to the Russian invasion, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin in February 2022 to try to abort its approach to the EU and NATO, it has been thanks to Western economic and military aid. And now that Donald Trump has decided to disengage from the almost exclusively European matter. If that is true, it also begins to be evident that Ukraine can be a fundamental asset in the future collective defense of Europe.
Presidents are usually surrounded by advisors, hundreds or thousands of them, professionals who give opinions, conduct surveys, and manage affairs. The more independent they are, the more credible and valuable their work is. Professionalism and sincerity, however, are not good companions of power….
