The Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court has upheld the precautionary measure requested by Iustitia Europa and Vox against the agreement of the Central Electoral Board, dated July 16, regarding the registration in the Electoral Census of Absent Residents (CERA) abroad of people who have been granted Spanish nationality.

When 40 days have passed since the mass entry into Ceuta, the Ministry of the Interior finally has the Temporary Immigrant Care Center (CATE) ready, through which all the people remaining in the autonomous city must pass to be identified in order to determine their future: return or international protection. The opening of this detention center, with a capacity to accommodate 400 people, marks a turning point in the Government’s plan to manage the crisis, since if Morocco remains willing to accept the — non-voluntary — return of its nationals, the returns should start to gain momentum. Yesterday, while awaiting its opening, dozens of immigrants, who were evicted on Sunday, were once again erecting makeshift huts near the CATE, set up in some warehouses in the Tarajal industrial estate, just meters from the border with Morocco.

The president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, traveled this Tuesday to Brussels to try to Europeanize the migration crisis and demand a “stronger” response from the European Union towards Morocco, which, in his opinion, “maintains a constant policy of harassment” towards the city.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo has continued outlining measures this Tuesday to address the Ceuta crisis and has assured that if he becomes president of the Government, he will activate article 8 of the Constitution to safeguard Spanish sovereignty if Morocco attempts to invade the autonomous city following the massive entry of immigrants at the end of July. “If I have to act and apply article 8 of the Constitution, I will do it. That is what it is for. And article 8 of the Constitution states that it is the responsibility of the armed forces, the Army, Air Force, and Navy to guarantee the territorial integrity of our country,” said the PP leader in an interview on Antena 3.

The State Attorney’s Office has requested the judge of the National Court María Tardón to accept its appearance as an injured party due to the massive entry of migrants from Morocco to Ceuta on July 30 and 31. In a document accessed by La Vanguardia, the State’s legal services argue that the facts under investigation “would clearly affect state safeguarding and national security.”
