The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Donald Trump’s sword of Damocles, has become the main objective of the United States in its war in Iran, which has already lasted five and a half months. When he ordered the start of the joint offensive with Israel on February 28, the president set optimistic and unrealistic goals: he promised the people that he would achieve a regime change in two weeks, during which he would end Tehran’s nuclear program and eliminate the threat of its allied militias in the region. However, even before the launch of the first missile, U.S. intelligence had already determined that these objectives were unattainable solely through military action.

Last week, the European Political Community (EPC) summit held in Armenia had a special guest. It was Mark Carney, the Canadian Prime Minister, who became the first non-European leader to attend a meeting of this intergovernmental forum that since 2022 brings together about fifty countries from the continent.

Today’s wars cannot be understood without drones. Aware of this, the U.S. military created a unit based in Europe last November dedicated to studying and mastering the use of this weaponry. The idea was to draw lessons from what is happening in Ukraine, where unmanned vehicles have completely transformed the battlefield. Once their training was completed, the group, named the Unmanned Assault Battalion, had to be capable of deploying anywhere the use of drones was required.
