A PP deputy, present in the negotiations of the amendments with Vox, complained this week about the impression that her party says yes to everything their partners propose without protest. “We fight a lot, you don’t know what they propose to us and not everything goes through,” she pointed out. The truth is that, despite the parliamentarian’s words, PP and Vox end the political course in total harmony in the Corts Valencianes. Last Monday, the Populars voted in favor of every single amendment from the radical right (both the negotiated and the untouched ones) to the law on fiscal, administrative and financial management measures, and the organization of the Generalitat. At the same time, Vox did the same with the PP, except on one issue.

In this way, the regulation accompanying the Generalitat’s Budgets, although this time they were not approved in the same plenary session, includes the slogan of national priority demanded by the extreme right, which translates into a tightening of the residency and years of registration in Spain required to access social benefits. In addition, the new regulation, which will be ratified without surprises by the two parliamentary groups in the last plenary session of this Friday’s session period, foresees “the exclusion from access to structural social benefits and services of people who are in an irregular administrative situation.” Access from which only “cases of vital urgency that proceed according to the legal system” are excepted.
The agreement between both parties has also allowed them to come closer on another issue that Vox has championed in recent months: their crusade against the burka and niqab. Both parties have included in the law of measures “restricting the use of garments or accessories that substantially conceal the face, for security reasons” in schools, public transport, or health centers.
The only disagreement in recent days has been over the AVL
The agreement between both parties has had only one disagreement. The PP remained firm last week, during the budget vote, in defending the increase of the budget for the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (AVL). Although their amendment to remove almost a million was rejected, the radical right ended up endorsing with the PP the increase of more than 6% in transfers to the institution that has normative competence over Valencian.

The truth is that, throughout the political course, the two partners have shown their ease in reaching agreements in the Valencian Parliament. Vox did not put obstacles to the replacement chosen by the leadership of Calle Génova for Carlos Mazón, and the two formations have known how to defend their interests in complicated issues such as holding the investigation commission on the dana. Nor in the commission on the scandal of public housing in Alicante are the ultras making the PP sweat.
These last two weeks, the final approval of budgets that could not begin to be negotiated until after the regional elections in Andalusia and today’s ratification of the accompanying law, seal an alliance between two parties condemned to understand each other.
