The president of the autonomous city of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, has asked the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament to secure the border of Morocco with the autonomous city of Ceuta to prevent the scenes of last week from happening again.
The Ceuta leader has requested all necessary means to address the situation currently faced by the city, where a significant number of migrant asylum seekers and many minors remain.
Vivas spoke this noon in a virtual meeting of the Union’s Justice Committee.

“Our population feels sad, powerless, uneasy, fearful, and worried. And they have reasons, because it is inevitable to wonder if this will not happen again at another time, and that will be the definitive one for the fall into the abyss,” Vivas said in his speech before the Committee, according to statements collected by the Efe agency.
The ministers of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, Elma Saiz, who were invited to participate in this committee meeting, did not attend. However, the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migrations, Magnus Brunner, did participate.
