The Anti-Fraud Office of Catalonia (OAC) has opened a file against the mayor of Ripoll (Girona), Sílvia Orriols, for alleged irregularities in the hiring of her daughter as a local police officer. The procedure at the OAC responds to a complaint, which has been admitted for processing and now moves to an instruction phase (preliminary evaluation phase of plausibility).
Last week, in a statement to the media, Orriols denied having influenced the hiring of her daughter as a local police officer and defended that she obtained “the best score in a regulated selection process” for an emergency position.
She said this after the Junts per Ripoll group asked the mayor to delegate the powers of the Security council to avoid a “conflict of interest” following her daughter’s incorporation into the force.
“The selection process has been spotless, and all councilors have access to this file to verify it. But what interests them is not the file that proves that there has been no kind of favoritism or interference. What interests them is to spread rumors,” she said.
She added that, as mayor, she cannot benefit or harm anyone by using her position: “And that is exactly what I have done. Staying out of the selection process as the law dictates,” as she says she does in all those promoted by the city council.
