The evolution of the main forest fires in Spain improves this Saturday on several fronts, although surveillance, cooling, and finishing work persist in Zamora, Madrid, and Castellón, where Vall d’Uixó remains affected by a fire that is still active and not yet stabilized.

The fire declared last Wednesday in Fermoselle (Zamora) has lowered its potential severity index from level 2 to level 1 this morning, after it was stabilized on Friday afternoon, according to sources from the Fire Extinguishing Service of the Junta de Castilla y León and the Zamora Civil Guard. The fire, which has burned about 11,000 hectares, mobilized up to 162 extinguishing resources, including reinforcements from Bosnia, Serbia, and Turkey, although this Saturday morning about thirty resources remain deployed.
The improvement has allowed the return of evacuated residents around the Arribes del Duero natural park, where the fire forced the evacuation of fourteen towns and the confinement of two others. The closed roads were reopened after the perimeter was stabilized, and the operation now focuses its efforts on finishing hotspots and cooling hot points.
In the Community of Madrid, the Sierra Oeste fire remains at operational situation 2 of the INFOMA 2026 Plan, although the affected area is considered stabilized and in the control phase. This Saturday, 21 ground resources, three aerial, and a UME section are working in the area, with 40 teams dedicated overnight to cooling the burned surface and monitoring possible flare-ups.
The reactivations recorded on Friday around the San Juan reservoir, in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, have forced the maintenance of safety restrictions. Swimming and the use of recreational boats remain prohibited in the San Juan reservoir and on the Alberche beach, while the Civil Guard monitors compliance with the measures and the M-957 and M-539 roads remain closed.
In Castellón, meanwhile, the Vall d’Uixó fire remains active in the Sierra de Espadán and maintains the deployed device on the ground, despite the evolution of recent days allowing some confinements and evacuations to be lifted. The fire, which reached about 8,500 hectares and forced the evacuation of thousands of residents, is still not fully stabilized and keeps the attention of extinguishing teams in several inland municipalities.

In Aragón, a forest fire declared on Friday in Sierra Calva, in the municipality of Seira, in the Ribagorza region (Huesca), at more than 2,000 meters altitude, also remains active. The fire, naturally caused by a lightning storm, has mobilized this Saturday five helicopters with helitroopers, an aerial coordination helicopter, ground brigades, and nature protection agents from the INFOAR operation, as well as two aerial resources from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
