The City Council of Valencia offers a series of recommendations for pets on the occasion of the solar eclipse scheduled for next August 12, such as maintaining schedules and avoiding crowds.
The decrease in light can cause some animals to become disoriented or behave for a few minutes as if it were nightfall, “a brief and completely normal reaction,” the city council pointed out in a statement.
For this reason, it is advised that people responsible for pets maintain their usual schedules and routines during the eclipse. “Normality and a calm environment are the best option for dogs and cats to experience this phenomenon,” they said.

Among the main guidelines, it is recommended to act calmly, avoid crowds and situations that may cause stress, and not leave animals loose, especially in open spaces or crowded areas, in case they become disoriented and may wander off or get lost.
Likewise, it is reminded that animals should not be made to look directly at the sun. Dogs and cats do not need special glasses for the eclipse, but they should not be forced to observe the phenomenon naturally either.
