Lamine Yamal’s private security staff thwarted an attempted robbery early this morning at the house the footballer owns in Esplugues de Llobregat, according to sources familiar with the incident who confirmed to La Vanguardia. A guard spotted through the security cameras two individuals perched on one of the walls of the Barcelona player’s property, who last night won with the Spanish national team against France in the Football World Cup.

The incident did not escalate. When the thieves were caught off guard, they quickly climbed down from the wall and fled the area. The footballer’s private security alerted the Mossos d’Esquadra, and the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the police has taken over the investigation.

The security cameras monitoring the exterior and interior of the property recorded the two intruders. Both wore balaclavas; one completely black and the other gray. Coincidentally or not, at least two robberies also occurred early this morning in houses in the same luxury development in Esplugues, pending confirmation that they were carried out by the same perpetrators. The fact is that there are specialized groups that roam Europe focusing on the homes of elite footballers.

The attempted robbery took place around four in the morning. A patrol of the Catalan police approached the residence and confirmed that the incident remained an attempted burglary with force.
Lamine Yamal’s house is a well-known property because it once belonged to Gerard Piqué and Shakira when the couple lived in Barcelona. After their separation, the house was the setting for some performances by the Colombian singer that attracted media interest, such as when she hung a witch on a balcony facing her in-laws’ home for weeks.
