Jonathan Andic's therapy involved undergoing an extreme situation on the edge of a cliff

The Mossos d’Esquadra from the Martorell investigation unit have taken statements, on two occasions, from a British woman residing in Barcelona, aged around fifty, who has worked as an English interpreter for decades and who occasionally collaborated with the Andic family’s therapist, Maria Julia Lüderwaldt. The woman first went to the Catalan police station in Martorell on June 29, accompanied by a lawyer, and for two hours recounted what she had kept silent about for the last year and a half and which, literally, prevented her from sleeping peacefully.

She stated that it was she who, at the request of the Ecuadorian therapist, looked for a mountain route to walk with Jonathan Andic, a patient of the controversial psychoanalyst. An excursion that both undertook on December 7, one week before Isak Andic’s fall while walking along that same path with his son Jonathan, who is being investigated for the alleged homicide of his father.

The witness recounted that she chose the path of les Feixades de Collbató in Montserrat because she had previously looked for a path to walk with another patient of Lüderwaldt whom she was also supposed to accompany, although that excursion was ultimately frustrated. The British woman declared at the police station that Jonathan Andic received instructions from his therapist to subject himself and his father to a limit situation. To the point that, according to this new witness, Isak Andic’s son had to put himself “on the edge of a precipice” forcing an extreme situation, sources familiar with this new statement confirmed to La Vanguardia. According to the controversial therapist, it was about taking the metaphor of the “death of the father” to the extreme, which the Ecuadorian intended to materialize with her psychoanalysis sessions so that the son of the founder of Mango would “free himself” from the emotional ties that, in her opinion, conditioned his patient’s daily life and prevented him from moving forward.

Maria Julia reacted like this after learning of Andic’s death: “I almost prefer not to know, lest I be next”

After almost a year and a half closely following the information related to the investigation into Isak Andic’s death, which led to Jonathan Andic’s arrest, the woman decided to voluntarily go to the Catalan police and give a statement.

The British woman showed and handed over to the Mossos all the messages she shared with María Julia Lüderwaldt related to the accompaniment she provided that morning to Isak Andic’s son. One message caught the instructor’s attention. After the businessman’s death became public, the translator wrote to the therapist, alarmed, asking what had happened. And Lüderwaldt replied to one of her collaborators: “I almost prefer not to know, lest I be next”.

During the two police statements, the first lasting two hours and the second, on July 6, almost four hours at the Les Corts police station in Barcelona, investigators showed the witness images of the point on the path where Isak Andic fell into the void. The Mossos wanted to know if the woman could locate that specific place, but she did not commit to identifying it in the photographs.

The police asked the witness if she would be able to recognize that precipice on the path if they accompanied her to Collbató. A procedure that, for now, has been postponed.

Isak Andic died on December 14, 2024, while walking with Jonathan Andic on a path in Montserrat, during an excursion proposed by his son to resolve the differences they were both working on. During the investigation, the Mossos d’Esquadra determined that the eldest of Andic’s sons had visited that same Collbató path on three previous occasions, on December 7, 8, and 10. Dates that, in her prison order, Martorell magistrate Raquel Nieto indicated showed planning in the scenario of what, for her, for the Mossos, and for prosecutor Teresa Yoldi, was an alleged homicide.

The existence of this new witness has completely surprised Jonathan Andic’s defense. Her account, which the judge and prosecutor are already aware of, provides new data on who, how, and why that tragic father-son mountain walk, which ended with the death of Catalonia’s richest man, was designed.

In fact, this new testimony, which the woman will have to ratify in court before the judge, the prosecutor, and the defense lawyers, Cristóbal Martell and Sebastián de Juan, represents a new contradiction in the account provided so far by the investigated party. Isak Andic’s son declared during the investigation phase, at the police station and in court, that he learned about the Collbató path through friends’ references, without specifying further details. The translator has stated and provided messages confirming that the idea of the father-son walk was at the initiative of María Julia Lüderwaldt in the context of the confrontation therapy they were undergoing, and that this specific path leading to the Salnitre caves was chosen by this new witness.
