Tourism once again provides a strong boost to the Spanish economy, and the spending figures of international tourists prove it. Until June, foreign visitors have left 63.8 billion euros in the country, which represents a 7% increase compared to the first half of 2025, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) published this Monday.

Furthermore, the number of tourists shows no signs of peaking and has reached a new historic high, having reached 46.6 million, 4.6% more than between January and June of the previous year. These data come in a context of unrest among certain sectors of the population in specific parts of the country, with examples of protests against ‘touristification’ such as the one in Palma a week ago.
By autonomous communities, the one with the highest accumulated spending in the first six months of the year is the Canary Islands, with 18.6% of the total. Catalonia ranks second, just one tenth behind (18.5%), and the Community of Madrid is third, with 15.7%.
Regarding origin, the United Kingdom is the emitting country with the highest accumulated spending in the Spanish market, with 17% of the total. Next, Germany accounts for 11.7% of spending and France, 7.4%. These three emitting markets are also those with the highest number of visitors.

In June alone, Spain received 9.7 million international tourists, a figure 2.9% higher than twelve months earlier. A total spending of more than 13.579 billion euros was generated, 4% higher than in the first half of the previous year.
By destinations, the preferred one in June was the Balearic Islands, which accounts for 23.3% of the total, followed by Catalonia, with 20.8% and 2.02 million visitors. Completing the podium is Andalusia, with 15.7% of tourists in the sixth month of the year. These three communities are also the ones with the highest spending in June. Catalonia accounts for more than one fifth, 20.1%, of the total: 2.72 million euros.
Average spending throughout Spain also increases. Each tourist has spent an average of 1,393 euros, which represents an increase of 1.1% compared to the previous year. Likewise, most visitors register stays of between four and seven nights. There are 4.9 million tourists, with an annual increase of 1.9%.
The Ministry of Industry and Tourism also highlights, in a statement, the growth in June of the number of visitors from Portugal and the United States, with a rate above 12% in both cases.
