Well, even fewer will remember the penthouse that the Community of Madrid had bought in Chamberí to house its president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, in a strange operation poorly explained to the public. The controversy lasted less than 24 hours because, when the Community of Madrid ran out of arguments to justify this purchase, it decided to get rid of the property. According to the newspaper El País , the Community of Madrid had bought the luxurious 481 m2 penthouse, of which 200 m2 is occupied by a large terrace, in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods of the capital, to use it as an official headquarters. The problem is that the apartment could only be used for residential purposes and never as offices. Upon learning the news, Ayuso downplayed this acquisition and said it was all part of a smear campaign. “It is not my house, it is not my residence, it is not for me,” she said, contradicting the official discourse that acknowledged it was for the use of the presidency while some works were being finished at the current headquarters.
Seeing that the opposition had found a goldmine, the Community decided yesterday to change course and get rid of the apartment. And, in a magnanimous gesture, sell it and allocate its proceeds to “help the reconstruction” of the areas affected by the fires in the Sierra Oeste region.
