An 82-year-old man of Spanish nationality and resident of La Sénia (Montsià) drowned this Thursday in a private pool in the municipality, according to Civil Protection.

The emergency phone 112 received the notice of the incident around half past seven in the evening. The events took place on Colomers street. The Medical Emergency System (SEM) mobilized three ambulances and a medicalized helicopter, but nothing could be done to save the man’s life. The Mossos d’Esquadra deployed four patrols: two of Citizen Security, the regional operational shift chief, and Investigation personnel, who took charge of the proceedings.
According to Civil Protection, 15 people have drowned on the beach since the official start of the bathing season on June 15. Three of these victims were minors who had an accident while swimming at the Arrabassada beach in Tarragona on June 19.

Nine people have drowned in pools, including two children under six years old, and five in inland waters (rivers, lakes, and reservoirs). Before this Thursday’s case, the last incident occurred on July 19, with the death of a six-year-old child in a hotel pool in Calella (Maresme).
Additionally, since the start of the campaign, about thirty people have been injured by drowning in pools in Catalonia, mostly children.
