A staff member of the Brians 2 Penitentiary Center suffered a brutal attack this Sunday by a visitor. According to the Catalan Prison Union (SICAP-FEPOL), the woman hit, bit, scratched, and pulled out tufts of hair from the worker, whom she also threatened with death. Additionally, during the incident, another visitor, a relative of an 86-year-old inmate, was injured while trying to separate the victim from her attacker.

According to the report of the events, the incident occurred around 13:20 hours, when the worker asked a visitor to wait a few moments before using the elevator, with the sole purpose of giving priority to elderly people with reduced mobility. It was then that the woman violently released the two-year-old child accompanying her and lunged at the professional when she was turned away. The union reports that she hit her in the face, scratched her face, eye, and chest, pulled out pieces of hair, and bit her on the forearm and face.
In response to the victim’s screams, another officer immediately activated a security code and came to assist her, although the intervention of several professionals was necessary due to the violence and loss of control of the attacker. Finally, using “the minimum force necessary to immobilize her,” according to the union, the aggression was stopped, while the visitor continued spitting and insulting the officers. The octogenarian who tried to help in the intervention was bitten on the hand and had to be treated by medical services, until finally, agents of the Mossos d’Esquadra took charge of the attacker.
The union calls for an immediate investigation and legal actions against the attacker
The union states that the aggression is not limited to an “individual incident,” and affirms that it is a demonstration “of the vulnerability in which penitentiary professionals work and the lack of an effective policy of prevention, protection, and response to aggressions.”

“Violence is no longer limited to residential modules; it also reaches communication spaces, access points, and areas open to family members and visitors. Any professional action, even as basic as respecting the turn for an elevator, can end in a brutal attack,” the group assures.
Likewise, the collective calls for an immediate investigation of the facts and the existing security conditions in the area, as well as maximum protection for the assaulted staff member and that the Administration take all possible legal actions against the person responsible for the aggression.
