Vox in the Alicante city council avoided this Thursday the censure of the city’s mayor, Luis Barcala, from the PP, by abstaining from the request by PSOE, Compromís and EU-Podem justified by the “express and unjustified” refusal to appear before the municipal investigation commission regarding the scandal of the public housing Les Naus de la Playa de San Juan.

The three left-wing parties defended in the last item of today’s ordinary plenary session an urgent institutional declaration to censure the mayor and urge him to resign, an initiative before which Vox had suspended its position until the moment of the vote, where the abstention of its four councilors left the 11 yes votes from PSPV-PSOE, Compromís and EU-Podem insufficient against the 13 no votes from the PP.
The Vox spokesperson, Carmen Robledillo, agreed with the left-wing parties that Barcala should resign although she clarified that they do not want to participate “in the spectacle of hypocrisy” displayed by PSPV-PSOE, Compromís and EU-Podem because they apply the presumption of innocence subjectively.
