The opposition groups already demanded a few days ago in the Interior commission of the Parliament the dismissal of the councilor of the department, Núria Parlon, and the general director of the Police, Josep Lluís Trapero, for infiltrating Mossos d’Esquadra agents in a teachers’ assembly within the framework of the protests of the education sector, an act for which both leaders apologized to the representatives of the teachers.

This Thursday, a further step has been taken in the Catalan Chamber and the opposition groups, during the plenary session, have censured the members of the Interior leadership through a parliamentary resolution that, among other measures, demands the dismissal of Parlon and Trapero. Also that of the Education minister, Esther Niubó, in the hypothetical case that she does not reach an agreement with the education unions. The requests in all three cases have been approved.
Only the PP, along with the PSC group, has defended the Government in this case, as already happened in the session held a week ago. Thus, the motion presented by CUP has had the support of JxCat and Esquerra Republicana, which has just sealed a budget agreement with Salvador Illa’s Executive. Vox and Aliança Catalana, for their part, have abstained from the anti-capitalists’ draft.

At the same time, the commons, who have renewed their pact with the Government today itself for the Generalitat’s 2026 accounts, have chosen to support the dismissal of the Mossos major and abstain in the case of the two councilors. Parlon, in any case, already reiterated this Wednesday during the control session that she did not intend to dispense with Trapero.
The migration challenge
The Chamber rejects requiring Catalan to renew residence permits
The plenary of the Catalan Chamber, in another matter, has rejected updating, within three months, the adaptation of the immigration regulation so that knowledge and accreditation of level B1 Catalan is established as a requirement for settlement, a proposal from JxCat. Nor has it been approved to request that it be guaranteed that “in each and every one of the regularization extensions the requirement of knowledge and accreditation of level A2 Catalan” is met at least.
Another issue related to immigration, referring to the national priority that PP and Vox have introduced in the latest agreements in Extremadura and Aragón, has been rejected by the plenary. The proposal from Ignacio Garriga’s group to apply the principle of national priority in access to public services has only received the support of the PP. PSC, Junts, ERC, the commons and CUP have voted against; and Aliança has abstained.
