The Moroccan Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, has firmly demanded the return to Morocco of Moroccan children and minors who crossed the Ceuta border at the end of July and are currently in Spain, holding the Spanish authorities responsible for their situation.

In statements to the Moroccan media Hespress, the head of Justice of the Alaouite government indicated that “Morocco maintains its commitment to recovering its children and minors present in Spain, including those who have recently arrived in the city of Ceuta or other centers,” emphasizing that there is no possibility of abandoning Moroccan children and adolescents.
The Minister of Justice stated that Morocco “will claim its children through legal and political means,” considering the Spanish authorities responsible for the fate of these minors and the conditions in which they live away from their families and their country. Ouahbi added that the strength of the relations between Morocco and Spain, as well as the high level of cooperation and coordination achieved between both countries, requires finding an immediate solution to this problem, guaranteeing the return of Moroccan minors to their families and their country, while preserving the spirit of collaboration and good relations between Rabat and Madrid.
The minister emphasized that the best environment to ensure a better future for these children remains that of their families and their country. He reaffirmed that “Morocco is not willing to abandon its children, its youth, nor its adolescents,” specifying that this stance applies to all Moroccan minors involved in this case.

The minister reiterated his statement that Rabat demands the return of all its children and that, when addressing their situation, their best interests, their future, and their right to return to their family environment must be taken into account above all.
This stance arises, according to Hespress, following consultations held between the Moroccan Minister of Justice and his Spanish counterpart, Félix Bolaños, regarding the case of Moroccan minors. These conversations focused on the legal and institutional means to address the situation of these children, as well as on mechanisms to verify their identity and reunite them with their families.
Ouahbi had previously emphasized that Spain is a friendly country to Morocco and that preserving relations between both countries remains fundamental. He stated that legal and institutional cooperation, along with direct dialogue, are the means to resolve problems related to migration and unaccompanied minors.
