UEFA has chosen this Tuesday, at the meeting of its Executive Committee held in Thessaloniki (Greece), the Spotify Camp Nou as the venue for the 2029 Champions League final, which will be held on June 2 of that year.

It will be the third time that the FC Barcelona stadium hosts the match of matches in Europe, after doing so in 1989 (Milan, 4-Steaua, 0) and 1999 (Manchester United, 2 – Bayern, 1). In addition, in 1972 it was also the venue for the Cup Winners’ Cup final between Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo Moscow, with a Scottish victory and serious disturbances in the stands of the Barcelona stadium by hooligans.

Currently in the final phase of its remodeling, it is expected that when the works are completed the Barcelona coliseum will have a capacity for 104,000 spectators, as well as almost 10,000 VIP seats, which has finally convinced UEFA. It will be the largest venue on the continent.
Barça plans to complete the works on the third tier during this season, and next summer it will begin to install the roof, a work that will last several months, forcing the first team to move to Montjuïc for a few months during the 2027-2028 season.

The schedule allows ample time for the completion of the remodeling and the adaptation of the accesses, an important aspect to host a match of these characteristics, before June 2029, when the match will be held.

The winning bid has been promoted by FC Barcelona, the Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat of Catalonia, through its Department of Sports, and has had the support of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
It should not be forgotten that Barcelona has also positioned itself as a possible venue for the 2030 World Cup final, a match that is assumed to be played at the Santiago Bernabéu but for which Casablanca, in Morocco, is also bidding with the construction of a huge and modern stadium. Both Casablanca and the Spotify Camp Nou have more than 20,000 seats more than their rival in this race, which has other weapons to achieve its goal.
The UEFA Executive Committee has also designated the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, as the venue for the 2028 final.
