One question after another. This is what Claudia Tacoronte’s sister, the 21-year-old Canarian student murdered in Mexico, victim of a robbery, asks herself in a video on social media. The young woman, 19 years old, expresses, broken with pain, her disbelief at what happened.

“This cannot be left like this,” she states. She does not understand how someone who intended to steal a phone ends up stabbing their victim in the abdomen, “and not once, but several times apparently, without any kind of justification.” “You can steal a phone, but take away their life, dreams, future…”.
“I don’t know where to start, I have no words, I don’t know what to say,” she asserts. She laments that “society is sick and full of inhuman people.” “What need does someone have to stab someone just because they feel like it, without any reason?” she wonders. “She [her sister] did nothing, she just ran away. She sought help and the guy went to finish her off. On top of that, that man is out there living life and with a new phone, I suppose,” she adds.
She also has words for the University of Granada, where her sister studied. She cannot understand how they sent her to Mexico on exchange. “She didn’t know anything, but I know that shortly before she arrived, two girls were murdered at the same university. Since we found out, my parents were obviously worried about her.”

“How are you going to send a woman to a place where two girls were just killed?” she questions. “A place where you can be killed walking down the street. It’s the people who sent her there… And then there are the excuses: ‘We didn’t know anything…’. I am very angry,” she emphasizes.

The young woman explains in the video how she found out what happened. “I have to talk to you,” her father told her. “They called from Mexico, Claudia is dead.”
In her speech, she remembers her sister. “She wanted to live life, to see new places. My sister had many plans. People loved her very much. She lived everything with great intensity. How must her last moments have been? She was alone dying.”

She hopes that the Mexican authorities will arrest the murderer as soon as possible. “Why does no one do anything? Every day people are murdered, especially women. And it is not fair. Killing someone is the worst thing a person can do. No one prepares you for this. I am very angry. What is happening in Mexico?”.
In the video, she shows her helplessness. “I am not doing very well. I don’t know what to do now. I can’t do anything. It’s the helplessness you feel,” concludes Claudia Tacoronte’s sister.
