President Donald Trump downplayed the growing alarm over the risks of artificial intelligence, after some industry leaders called for slowing the pace of development of this technology.

“We are ahead of China in artificial intelligence. We are the most advanced country in the world and, honestly, I want it to stay that way, because whoever wins the artificial intelligence race, wins,” Trump told reporters on Sunday when asked if the AI sector should slow down or be more regulated.

“We could set control measures. We can do this or that. But I think there are many very negative forces raising issues that shouldn’t be brought up, and they are talking about things that are not going to happen,” Trump said.
