Sixteen years after the South Africa World Cup changed their lives forever, Shakira and Gerard Piqué have crossed paths again at a World Cup. The Colombian singer and the former footballer were present this Sunday at the grand final between Spain and Argentina held at the New York New Jersey Stadium, although they did so from very different places and without any public reunion.

Piqué followed the match from the stands with his children, Milan and Sasha, with whom he enjoyed the game that ended with Spain being crowned world champion. The presence of the former FC Barcelona player did not go unnoticed for another reason: he attended the stadium without Clara Chía, his current partner, who did not accompany him on this occasion.
Meanwhile, Shakira was one of the main protagonists of the day on the pitch. The Colombian artist led the halftime show organized by FIFA, where she performed Dai Dai, the official song of the 2026 World Cup. Her performance, watched by more than 82,000 spectators present in the stadium and by millions of people around the world, became one of the most anticipated moments of the final.

Although no meeting between the two was revealed, the coincidence did not go unnoticed. Four years after their high-profile separation and after a long period marked by public disagreements, they shared the stage at one of the most important sporting events on the planet, although in completely different roles.
The image also has a strong symbolic component. It was precisely a World Cup, the 2010 South Africa one, that gave rise to their relationship, after Piqué participated in the music video of Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), the official anthem of the tournament. That meeting led to a love story that lasted more than a decade and from which their two children were born.
