The Civil Guard has arrested one person this Friday and is investigating another as authors of the Burgohondo (Ávila) forest fire. The fire has already burned more than 9,000 hectares, and its origin is a serious imprudence due to the use of heavy machinery in this area where its use was totally prohibited.

According to the investigation carried out by Seprona of the province of Ávila, the two investigated individuals caused sparks when using this machinery, which would have been the origin of the fire. Furthermore, these works were being carried out on days when the Junta de Castilla y León had decreed the prohibition of the use of machinery whose operation could generate fire in the forest.

These individuals are attributed with a crime of forest fire, as well as another crime against natural resources and the environment, with the aggravating circumstances that the fire affects areas close to population centers or inhabited places and harms the balance of natural systems.
It should be remembered that this is the second time a national emergency has been declared, after the one decreed between April 28 and 30, 2025, due to the power outage.

Nevertheless, the forest fire affecting the province of Ávila continues to advance and has forced the closure of the road connecting the municipalities of El Tiemblo and Cebreros. Authorities have also ordered the evacuation of the peri-urban area of Cebreros and part of the scattered settlement of Puente Nuevo as a preventive measure due to the proximity of the flames.
Currently, around 1,500 people remain evacuated, and the municipalities of Burgohondo, Navaluenga, and El Tiemblo remain confined. The fire, declared in Operational Situation 3 of national emergency, maintains an approximate perimeter of 71 kilometers and has already devastated nearly 9,000 hectares.
