Survivor is one of Telecinco’s flagship reality shows. Premiered on September 10, 2000, under the subtitle Expedición Robinson, it is part of the reality rotation along with Big Brother and The Island of Temptations. Its most well-known faces cannot be counted on the fingers of both hands, just like its most iconic locations. A true benchmark that continues strong, with its twenty-fifth edition underway and leaving memorable moments with each passing week.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for its Greek counterpart, which is going through one of the most difficult moments in its history. On May 10, Skai TV and the production company Acun Medya decided to suspend broadcasts of Survivor Greece until further notice, due to the chilling accident suffered on Saona Island by one of its contestants, Stavros Floros. Ten days later, the network published a statement through its Instagram profile, announcing the end of this edition with a final broadcast tonight, Wednesday.
It all happened when, according to several eyewitnesses, the 21-year-old beekeeper “was diving without a signaling buoy in an area frequented by tourist boats.” Minutes after entering the water, he was violently hit by a speedboat traveling at high speed. Floros was rushed to a hospital in the Dominican Republic, where the Greek version of the show is filmed, but the consequences of the accident have been very serious: total amputation of the left leg and severe trauma to his right ankle.

Fortunately, the program’s team acted with utmost speed, preventing the situation from getting worse. Floros is hospitalized, stable, and out of danger, to the point that he shared a video on social media to ease fears. “Thank you for all the love I have received, truly this whole matter is a miracle. Thanks to everyone who gave me this smile,” he expressed in the footage. Regarding the accident, the organization already stated that it occurred outside of filming hours.
Final point
“According to the available information, the accident appears to have occurred when a tourist boat injured the contestant while he was spearfishing outside the framework of the reality show’s competition,” Skai shared before deciding to cease broadcasts. “Our only concern is his health recovery,” they shared, announcing that the last episode of the current edition will air this Wednesday, starting at 9:00 PM.
