The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, stated this Wednesday night, regarding the CNI warnings about Ceuta, that with the information available “no one could have anticipated” the migration crisis, “neither in Spain nor in the EU.”

“This is understandable because, with the information available at the time, no one could have anticipated the migration crisis that occurred on the 30th and 31st. No competent body did. Neither in Spain nor in the EU,” Sánchez said in a message posted on X.
According to the Prime Minister, what is read in the documents declassified today is that on July 29 the CNI informed the Government Delegation in Ceuta that a call was circulating in two Facebook groups to enter the city irregularly during the week of the Throne Festival.
“And it added that these groups totaled ‘a total of 180,000 followers’ so that their interlocutors could “get an idea of the scope of the dissemination,” he states.
Sánchez assures that the existence of this campaign was known by other institutions and was being monitored, “but in no way did it constitute or could it be interpreted as an indicator of the scale, nature, or likelihood of what happened afterwards.”

“In fact,” he adds, “not even the CNI did. Proof of its prudence is that this body limited itself to transmitting that information by message and brief phone call to the Cabinet of the Government Delegation of Ceuta and to the UCE-3 of the Civil Guard and did not issue any major alert to its chain of command of the Armed Forces, the National Police, or the Ministry of Defense.”

According to the head of the Executive, what the “Government and public workers did was act as soon as the threat materialized, mobilizing all available resources.”
