The Magòria renovation project gets underway for the fourth time, with works scheduled for 2028

This is one of those municipal projects that generate a certain sense of déjà vu in anyone who follows urban planning information in Barcelona with some interest. The City Council announced this Thursday the awarding of the Landskrona project in the ideas competition to define the Magòria complex, in Sants-Montjuïc, on the mountain side bank of Gran Via. The works, which include sports facilities, a new garden, and the underground work and cleaning center of Parc i Jardins, should start in January 2028. The fact is that something similar happened in the previous decade, with the expectation of being able to cut the ribbon in 2022.

Mendoza, a Sant Jordi with bodyguards

Eduardo Mendoza has been signing books at Sant Jordi for over half a century (he published his first novel, The Truth About the Savolta Case, in 1975), but never until today had he had to do so accompanied by a bodyguard. An ironic comment about the May 23rd celebration (one must say Book Day, he came to say, because the figure of the saint “has nothing to do with books or writers, Sant Jordi was an animal abuser and probably couldn’t read”) ignited the flame of indignation in pro-independence sectors, with the Joventut Nacionalista de Catalunya (Junts’ youth wing) announcing a campaign for the Generalitat to withdraw his Creu de Sant Jordi, and from the anonymity of social media, there was even a call to burn the author’s books, taking advantage of the Sant Joan bonfires.

The federation of family associations of Catalonia (aFFaC) asks the Department of Education to promote a major agreement on public education outside the union negotiation table, an agreement in which families participate. They interpret the rejection of the pre-agreement in Thursday’s consultation by teachers as a lack of vision from the Government and unions to understand the teachers’ demands.

The mother sought advice on Google to protect her baby from the father’s abuse

The open investigation against a couple detained for the alleged abuse of their baby points directly to the father. This is warned by the order issued by the third section of the Barcelona Court, which releases the mother and keeps the father in prison, considering him responsible for the acts. The investigators have identified two key elements that allow attributing the assaults on the baby to the father.
