Mango tries to reassure its workers: “The collaboration has been and will be maximum”

The homicide charge against Jonathan Andic has caused a deep shock among the staff of Mango, the company founded by his father, Isak Andic, and of which the accused still holds the vice presidency. The fashion firm is cautious and strives to separate the business from the police proceedings. But the seriousness of the events and the unease of the thousands of Mango workers have forced it to act.

The company issued an internal circular, accessed by La Vanguardia, in which it tries to calm spirits and convey security to employees. The message was sent yesterday to more than 2,200 people working at the group’s headquarters in Palau-solità i Plegamans, a large campus that houses the central offices.

”In line with Mango’s commitment to transparency and in light of the published information, we want to convey the following,” begins the corporate statement.

It goes on to explain that Jonathan Andic “is currently testifying within the framework of the proceedings of the December 14, 2024 accident, when Isak Andic died after falling on a trail in the Collbató caves, near Montserrat, while on an excursion with his firstborn.

”At this moment we cannot add much more,” the statement says. It concludes with a message of openness towards the police investigation: “collaboration has been and will be maximum within the framework of these proceedings.”

The homicide charge against Jonathan Andic has left all members of Mango in shock, from the management team to the base employees. However, activity remains unchanged both at headquarters and at the logistics center and stores. “Operations continue as usual, but the feeling is one of absolute shock,” say consulted employees. The company’s business cannot stop, as more than 17,000 employees worldwide and nearly 3,000 points of sale depend on it.

The company is chaired by Toni Ruiz, who is both CEO and a minority shareholder with 5% of the shares. He was chosen by Isak Andic to take the reins of the empire he had built from nothing, when he was barely a teenager who arrived from Turkey with his family. Isak and Toni Ruiz formed the “ideal tandem,” as employees and close businessmen say. One brought intuition and creative vision, and the other brought structure, clarity, and strategy. The union between them was such that the businessman wanted to reward him by making him owner of the company.

Jonathan Andic, on the other hand, stepped aside from Mango’s executive management after his father’s death, of which he is now accused. He led the men’s line of the brand, Mango Man, after a failed attempt more than ten years ago to run the company. However, last year he left the position to focus on his role as an equal shareholder with his two sisters, Sarah and Judith.

Those who worked with him daily explain that Jonathan was a “direct and demanding” boss, but also understanding with his team when necessary. Now, he faces his toughest hour.
