The authorities have arrested a total of 23 people, although the police search and the judicial presentation of the detainees have not yet been carried out. This blow to drug trafficking follows the largest seizure of cocaine on the high seas by the National Police last January, when a cargo ship hiding more than 9.9 tons of cocaine among a shipment of salt was intercepted.

The ship was boarded about 535 kilometers west of the island of El Hierro amid fears that several boats would reach the vessel to pick up the merchandise and escape with the drugs.
