Investigators of the alleged attempted attack in early August at the German Leipzig airport found, ten days after discovering a first drone equipped with an explosive charge, another unmanned aerial vehicle near the airfield, as well as explosives, German media reported this Tuesday.

The new drone was found early in the afternoon of August 14 in a field in Kabelsketal, in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, which borders directly with the western part of Leipzig airport, in Saxony. Investigators also found about 50 grams of a substance suspected to be hexogen, a military-use explosive, German press details.
This could be, according to investigators, the third drone related to the alleged attempted attack discovered the first week of August and which still has no clear attribution, although German security circles take for granted that Russian secret services participated in its planning, an accusation Moscow has denied.

The discovery implies that the perpetrators of the incident could have planned a much larger attack than previously assumed, public regional broadcasters WDR and NDR and the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung indicate this Tuesday based on sources from security agencies.
Leipzig airport is a military and cargo logistics center used by NATO and the Ukrainian airline Antonov Airlines for the transport of military supplies. On August 4, a drone loaded with explosives was discovered near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane used for transporting military supplies. The alleged attack apparently failed due to a defect in the bomb detonator.
On the other hand, it is believed that a second drone may have collided shortly after with a DHL cargo plane that had been forced to abort its landing in Leipzig due to the airport closure. Apparently, the plane collided with the drone at the airport fence at a speed of several hundred kilometers per hour and supposedly, a few seconds before, the aircraft pilots had seen a flying object about 30 centimeters in size, while the radar image analyzed later also revealed signs of a small flying device.
So far this drone or any of its parts have not been found, but experts estimate that the flying device could have entered the engines after the collision and shattered into tiny pieces. However, in Kursdorf, north of Leipzig airport, investigators found taped to a tree an antenna and other electrical components, which were possibly used to control the drone.
