Alberto Núñez Feijóo has sent a message through social media to wish Catalunya a good Diada. The leader of the PP has claimed the capabilities of the autonomy and, for this reason, has asked that it stop being a “bargaining chip” for national political agreements that may end up prioritizing partisan interests over those of the Catalans themselves.

“That Catalunya has everything to take off was seen by the whole world a few months ago, in the majesty of the Sagrada Familia, on the occasion of the visit to Spain of Pope Leo XIV,” Feijóo said, in a message he published in Spanish and Catalan. “It does not need to continue being a bargaining chip for anything, but rather part of the change that all of Spain needs to recover order, freedom, and prosperity,” he added. “Bona Diada a tothom! Bona Diada a tots els catalans!” he concluded.
Feijóo knows the importance of Catalunya and, for this reason, since he became president of the PP in 2022, he has repeatedly visited the autonomy. In the last year, he has gone almost a dozen times – one of them to present proposals on immigration, an important issue. Besides the leader of the PP, it is also very common for the agendas of the two men who handle the party’s economy, Alberto Nadal and Juan Bravo, to include presence in Catalunya.

In this regard, the idea circulating within Feijóo’s PP is that, beyond whether or not there can be an understanding with Junts for a motion of no confidence – something that has cooled down a lot – the goal is to prevent that if Feijóo reaches the Government, the past tensions in Catalunya with the independence process can be repeated. The PP trusts in Catalunya’s capabilities and wants to recover the economic strength of the autonomy so that it becomes a reference.
