If the museum officials, the most visited in Spain, already celebrated a few days ago the World Cup victory by the national team with a comparison of the plays of the la roja footballers with classical works from the gallery, they have now created a video that explains how some of its works would look under the unique lighting of a solar eclipse.
The audiovisual piece prepared by the Prado to welcome the eclipse invites the public to rediscover its paintings “through new atmospheres, nuances, and visual contrasts,” explains the institution presided over by Miguel Falomir, whose leadership is characterized by a commitment to innovation and cultural dissemination, with proposals that combine art and technology to bring the museum’s collections closer to a wider audience and offer new ways to interpret artistic tradition.
In this regard, the proposal about the solar eclipse, which has benefited from the use of artificial intelligence to design and refine complex visual instructions, define aspects such as the evolution of light, the appearance of shadows and reflections, or the effect on characters, landscapes, and architectural elements, combines digital creation techniques and graphic intervention to explore the role of light in the artistic experience, the Prado notes in the statement informing about this initiative.

The video, released on the museum’s YouTube channel, is titled “The Prado in the Light of the Eclipse” and presents some of its most emblematic works under the sudden twilight of a sun hidden by the moon, such as The Meadow of San Isidro by Goya; The Embarkation of Saint Paula Romana by Claude Lorrain, or the self-portrait by Albrecht Dürer, among other pieces from its collection.
Through a progressive transformation of light, the video shows how small changes in lighting can modify the perception of colors, shapes, and the atmosphere of the paintings. A proposal that explores how a solar eclipse can transform the way of observing a work and how light affects the aesthetic and emotional experience of the viewer.
Madrid is preparing to experience an eclipse that will be visible, although it will not reach 100%, from different points in the city. If the Temple of Debod, which already receives hundreds of visitors who watch the sunset every day, will be one of the most frequented places, it is also expected that the Dehesa Park or the Cerro del Tío Pío Park, the popular Seven Breasts in Vallecas, will fill up. Likewise, hotels are preparing special activities on their privileged terraces and some, like the Hyatt on Gran Vía, have scheduled an afternoon with a DJ and a cocktail created for the occasion. In any case, the director of the Planetarium, Telmo Fernández, recommends finding a place with a completely clear western horizon, without buildings, trees, or mountains that hide the sun when it is very low.
