A gunman killed eight children in Louisiana in several domestic violence-related shootings that occurred in different homes early Sunday morning, Shreveport police reported. The victims were between one and 14 years old, said Shreveport police spokesman Chris Bordelon. A total of ten people were wounded by gunfire. The gunman later died after a pursuit with officers who shot him, Bordelon explained.

The suspect stole a car while fleeing the scene of the shootings and was pursued by police. Authorities said they were still gathering details at the crime scenes, which spanned three locations. Some of the injured children were relatives of the suspect, Bordelon said. “This is an extensive scene, unlike any other we have seen,” he said.

At a press conference in front of the residence where one of the shootings occurred, authorities expressed their dismay and asked the community for patience as they analyzed the multiple crime scenes.

Louisiana State Police says Shreveport police have asked their detectives to investigate. In a statement, state police explain that no officers were injured in the officer-involved shooting after a police chase in Bossier City. State police ask anyone with photos, videos, or information to share them with their detectives.
