The spokesperson for Coalición Canaria in Congress, Cristina Valido, has declared the current legislature led by Pedro Sánchez finished and has argued that “the logical thing” would be to call elections this year to “wipe the slate clean” in 2027 and start working with a new government.

“The referee blew the whistle. It’s time for the citizens to express their opinion and choose a new Government,” said the parliamentary spokesperson in an interview on ‘Radio Club Tenerife’, reported by Europa Press, following the corruption cases affecting Sánchez’s Government, the indictment of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in the ‘Plus Ultra case’, or the impossibility of approving new general state budgets that would allow commitments to the Canary Islands to be met.
Questioned about the warning from the PNV, whose president, Aitor Esteban, has indicated that “it would be irresponsible” to continue the legislature in 2027, Valido recalled that the Basque party “at this moment is not considering a motion of no confidence because it does not like the alternative.” “But it has to be sensible in its statements,” said the Coalición Canaria leader, who also questioned whether the coalition Government can remain next year given the lack of parliamentary support.
Valido acknowledged that there are no conversations or negotiations with the Government, although she will support in Congress “what is important for the citizens and the Canary Islands,” while reproaching that the State owes “1.2 billion in current transfers” caused “by the lack of budgets for the third consecutive year.” “It is clear that the legislature will not give any more and I believe people have the right to express themselves,” the deputy asserted.
That said, Valido defended that Sánchez present a vote of confidence, as Coalición Canaria demanded at the National Political Council (CPN) held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. “It has never been as necessary as now. The vote of confidence is perfectly stipulated and exists precisely for situations where the Government does not have the necessary support,” she explained.

The parliamentary spokesperson also commented that the PP has not spoken to her about the “possibility” of presenting a motion of no confidence because they understand “they don’t have the numbers” and, therefore, “do not negotiate it.”
“Everything will depend on Sánchez, on what he wants to do, whether he wants to call elections or not, because the PP is not considering presenting a motion of no confidence,” Valido recalled, who again called for the vote of confidence as a necessity. “And if it is not obtained, call elections. That is what our democratic system and the rules we have set say,” she added, while lamenting that the Prime Minister sees Congress as “dispensable” and wants to stay in power “at any cost for as long as possible.”
Later, the only Coalición Canaria deputy in Congress said that personally she “would support” a motion of no confidence promoted by the PP, and with the backing of Vox, to “call elections immediately.”
“I think the time has come for the citizens to express themselves,” she responded in statements to ‘Cuatro’, where she indicated that it makes no sense to prolong the “agony” of Sánchez’s legislature which lacks parliamentary support.
