The residents believe, and are demanding in a campaign that has recently been reactivated on social media, that the territorial Coastal service should remove especially the breakwater that separates the artificial esplanade from the beach, whose presence they believe harms its quality.
They consider that this breakwater, far from protecting the environment, “has turned the cove into a semi-stagnant, unhealthy, and environmentally degraded area. By preventing water renewal, it has created an unbalanced ecosystem where the seabed has become muddy and foul-smelling, with accumulation of sediments and decomposing sludge.”

According to this campaign, “the lack of current favors the proliferation of microorganisms and drastically reduces water quality. The area has become a refuge for recreational boats that anchor permanently, without any control, generating discharges, noise, and seabed disturbances. There has been an evident deterioration of the natural and landscape environment, which drives away bathers and residents, and compromises local biodiversity.”

It makes no sense to regenerate the beach margins while the water remains stagnant and polluted because of this artificial barrier,” they conclude. Therefore, they request the authorities to demolish the breakwater entirely, “or failing that, transform it into a permeable structure that allows the entry of currents.”
