The Government has set in motion this Wednesday the machinery for the 2027 general state budgets with a first meeting between the Minister of Finance, Arcadi España, and the spokesperson of Sumar and Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun.

The Executive plans to take the accounts to the Council of Ministers in two or three weeks, one step further compared to the last two years, when it announced new accounts that ultimately were not even presented due to lack of parliamentary support. But, despite the points of agreement between both partners to safeguard the welfare state and protect families and businesses, the negotiation starts from a relationship marked by numerous disagreements.
Finance has set as priorities facilitating access to housing – especially for young people –, promoting the ecological transition, and guaranteeing the purchasing power of pensioners. It also proposes strengthening research, stable employment, and public services by raising the spending ceiling to 226.032 billion euros. The highest in history.
Sumar, for its part, wants expansive accounts that reinforce the public rental park and accelerate electrification with renewable sources. It also demands a universal childcare benefit, more resources for care, universal education from zero to three years, public transport subsidies, and a tax reform that increases taxation on wealth.

The budgetary agreements shown have not prevented Sumar from raising some reproaches to the PSOE. Its spokesperson for Interior and Justice, Enrique Santiago, has demanded that the Ministry of Defense investigate the complaints about alleged assaults on migrants by military personnel deployed in Ceuta, sanction those responsible, and, if appropriate, refer the facts to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Santiago has dissociated the complaints from the entire Armed Forces and trusted that, “knowing the places where the events occurred and the patrols deployed,” it will be possible to identify those responsible.
Gerardo Pisarello has joined the criticisms of the management of the Ceuta crisis, also attacking the housing decree presented this week by the PSOE – for considering that it opens the door to “urban speculation” – and the lobby law – for equating class unions with pressure groups. The co-spokesperson of the Comuns and also candidate for the mayoralty of Barcelona has questioned the PSOE’s “drift” towards “antisocial” positions and has assured, as a warning message, that “we do not understand what game it is playing.”
