Mexican authorities are tracking the main suspect in the murder of the Spanish student, Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera, in the state of Morelos last weekend. He is said to be a habitual offender known as El Trompas.

Security cameras would confirm this hypothesis, according to El País, having recorded him committing several robberies in different establishments in Cuautla, a city located about 100 kilometers south of Mexico City. Witnesses near the Casa de la Cultura, where the killer stabbed the 21-year-old young woman, agree that he was wearing the same clothes seen in the images of the thefts.

While awaiting clarification of the investigation, Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Roberto Velasco, assured Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, of his “maximum involvement” to clarify everything that happened.
Albares thanked him for the cooperation, and both agreed to remain “closely” in contact to clarify the facts “and to hold those responsible accountable before justice.” The Foreign Ministry recalled that the Spanish Embassy in Mexico and the Consulate General are “fully mobilized and providing all assistance to Claudia’s family.”
