The most recent fire occurred on July 6 and originated in the municipality of Carme, in the Anoia region. It affected more than 450 hectares of forest and agricultural land, as well as businesses and homes, and forced the confinement of the population of seven nearby municipalities.
Seven municipalities had to be confined and two residential areas evacuated due to the fire
The agents were able to determine that the origin of the fire was on the shoulder of the BV-2131 road, where partially burned remains of cardboard fragments belonging to the packaging of a pack of beer cans were also found. In the last two years, a series of fires had occurred, all allegedly caused or of unknown origin, in the same area very close to the fire’s starting point, indicating the presence of an arsonist.

Statements were collected from several people who had been in the area shortly before and after the fire started, as witnesses, and security camera footage was reviewed to determine which vehicles could have been at the scene.
As a result of the investigation, the current suspect was identified and was brought before the Investigating Court on duty in Igualada this past Tuesday.
