Zapatero sold a house in Almería to Julio Martínez in 2011, his last year in office

José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero sold the businessman Julio Martínez Martínez, who is at the center of the plot investigated by Judge José Luis Calama, a house in Almería in 2011, the last year of his term as Prime Minister, according to the report from the National Office for the Investigation of Fraud (ONIF) submitted to the case file, which does not specify the exact date of the transaction.

The property is located at 12 Tortuga Boba Street, in the Mirador de Vera Residential Urbanization, in the Almerian town of Vera. Martínez bought it from both Zapatero and María Sonsoles Espinosa, his wife, which seems to show that at least this relationship already existed in the last year of Zapatero as Prime Minister.

Martínez sold the property in 2019 to Compañía Inversora de Superficies SLU, belonging to the corporate environment of his brother, Manuel Martínez Martínez. In 2023, the house was sold again, located in a townhouse development near the beach. At that time, the property left Martínez’s personal and family environment.

For three years, the Almería house was listed as the headquarters of two of the 39 companies in the Martínez environment, Voli Analítica and Zenzap. These are the ones the judge is investigating as part of the Plus Ultra case.

The report analyzes the economic activity of Julio Martínez Martínez between 2020 and 2025. During that period, he barely declared for personal income tax and received high income from his circuit of 39 companies, often in the form of loans. Six other homes and 16 vehicles, some high-end, passed through his perimeter.

A 247-square-meter penthouse in the center of Madrid with insufficient income to afford it

ONIF is struck by the fact that Martínez lives in a rented penthouse on Diego de León Street in Madrid of 247 square meters without proving sufficient income to cover the monthly payments under normal conditions. The annual rent is more than 60,000 euros.

“Pending confirmation of the rental amount the taxpayer must pay, the volume of deposits into bank accounts seems insufficient to cover this payment,” the report says.

Between 2020 and 2025, the income attributed to Martínez comes from companies in his environment. However, during the analyzed period, he did not file personal income tax returns, except in 2024.

Almost no personal income tax returns, but income from his companies

Between 2020 and 2021, there is no record of him being the holder of bank accounts in Spain, while from 2022 he appears as the holder of some. Money starts to come in there, such as about 75,000 euros from the company in his environment Agropecuaria Lucena. A good part of the money is used to buy some shares.

In 2025, 100,000 euros enter his bank account, although ONIF is unable to determine its origin.

Cars from the brands Audi, Mercedes, or Land Rover

The report also highlights that Martínez does not have vehicles in his name. However, the companies in his environment have had six properties and 16 vehicles between 2020 and 2025, of which four are motorcycles. There are cars from the brands Audi, Mercedes, Jeep, or Land Rover.

Apart from that wealth, Martínez has shared with his brothers the ownership of 14 properties in the province of Alicante by inheritance from their father, Julio Martínez Vicent.

The control environment in which the properties are concentrated corresponds to the 39 companies in which he has at least 20% of the capital. Twenty of them are inactive.

The companies accumulate deposits in bank accounts exceeding one million euros between 2020 and 2025, which are directed to three entities without employees. The company with the most transactions is called ASP Rentas.

Flats in Madrid

The control environment of the companies has a portfolio of six properties, not all currently owned. There is a 140-square-meter home on Ríos Rosas Street that was bought in June 2020 for 511,847 euros and sold a year later for 640,000 euros.

There is another on Madrid Avenue, in Alicante, which belongs to one of the companies, as well as a plot on Paco Clavijo Street, in Jaén, a property on Presbitero Street, in Alicante, and a flat on Roma Street in Madrid.
