Young talent Finlay Tarling from Iniesta’s development team dies in accident at the Volta a Portugal

Welsh cyclist Finlay Tarling, 19 years old, member of the NSN development team, owned by Andrés Iniesta, died this Friday in an accident while participating in the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal, according to the race organization. The boy was the brother of fellow cyclist Joshua Tarling (Ineos), 22 years old, world track champion in 2025, and world bronze medalist in road cycling (2023).

The organizers of the Portuguese tour, in a note published on their social networks, indicate that Tarling’s death occurred after “a serious accident,” without giving further details.

The television channel broadcasting the competition, the Portuguese channel RTP, detailed that the accident was due to a head-on collision with a car unrelated to the race that was driving in the opposite direction in the town of Arcozelo, in Ponte de Lima.

Due to the incident, the stage was suspended with about 20 kilometers to go and, according to the organization, “as a sign of respect and mourning,” the podium ceremony was not held.

The President of Portugal, António José Seguro, also lamented the tragic event and expressed his “deep sorrow for the tragic death” of the Welsh cyclist.

The NSN Development Team is the development team of the NSN Cycling Team, a UCI WorldTeam category team whose license Andrés Iniesta acquired eight months ago. The squad is the continuation of the structure of the former Israel-Premier Tech by NSN (Never Say Never), the sports agency co-founded by the former Manchego footballer, in alliance with the Spanish-Swiss investment fund Stoneweg.
