Xi Jinping has received Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in his Beijing palaces in less than a week. It is normal for the official Chinese press to boast and consider that their country “is at the epicenter of world diplomacy.” More distant with the first and more affable with the second, but Xi consolidates his country’s influence and his multilateral strategy of being on good terms with everyone.

Proof of his influence is that a spokesperson for the Russian president said yesterday, after the visit, that Putin and Trump could meet in the Chinese city of Shenzhen next November at a regional economic forum. The Russian president showed himself favorable to building bridges with Trump and, following the line of Chinese foreign policy, stated that his country “is willing to cooperate with everyone, including our partners in the world and the United States themselves.”
These two important summits, however, have not cleared up the underlying problem that world trade currently faces in the Strait of Hormuz. For this reason, Xi took advantage of the meeting with Putin to once again call on the United States to reopen this route, since approximately 40% of China’s oil imports pass through this maritime passage.

It is difficult to know at what stage the conflict with Iran currently is, which is key to resolving the Hormuz problem. Trump continues to send contradictory messages, between definitive peace and a new wave of attacks, and time passes without any clear solution being reached. Similarly, in Ukraine, no one talks anymore about a ceasefire or peace conditions.

The world seems to be entering a situation of total chaos, where conflicts accumulate and are not resolved. In this context, Cuba will soon join this long list, if we pay attention to Washington’s moves.
China, despite its growing influence and feeling like the center of world diplomacy, is also not a guarantee of being able to order the chaos. Xi, Trump, and Putin meet, talk, and respect each other, but there is no way to reach agreements so that the world does not seem more and more uncontrollable every day.
