Wanting to praise him, President Donald Trump exposed his own lie and the hypocrisy and falsehood of his loyal friend Gianni Infantino this Friday.

“You made another great decision,” Infantino told Trump as a compliment, once he called him and “recommended” that he lift the suspension for the red card received by American Folarín Balogun against Bosnia-Herzegovina. FIFA lifted the punishment and the forward was able to play against Belgium, although the U.S. was eliminated after a severe beating by the Europeans.
Trump made the comment on Friday night during his speech at a FIFA reception held at Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York, where he left another remark for controversy.
Trump highlighted in his speech the achievements of the Football Championship, which the United States organized jointly with Mexico and Canada, calling it a success, despite his administration having had confrontations with its historic allies and main economic partners over trade and immigration issues.
So the president took a jab at the co-host countries by asking FIFA to organize the tournament again in the United States, but without its continental neighbors. “They should choose the United States of America again. This time we will leave out Mexico and Canada,” he said. His phrase was met with laughter in the room, which sounded like mockery towards those two other countries.
“I was very kind in getting them to participate. What they should do is choose us, but pick others for the next World Cup, and that will help reduce the anger, hatred, and tension of everyone,” he added.
In this combative line, the U.S. leader reopened the debate about the withdrawal of Balogun’s red card, a pardon that outraged fans worldwide. This time he attributed all responsibility for that measure to Infantino, when the latter assured that he had nothing to do with it and that the decision corresponded to a review committee of the organization.
“If you think about it, you will never get recognition for that,” the host insisted in praising the FIFA chief.

On July 6, in the Oval Office, the president tried to downplay the scandal, in vain, stating that he had only asked for a review of the red card. “I didn’t tell him what to do. I just asked them to review it because I thought it was very unfair,” he explained then, at which point he also admitted that he had to ask what a red card was.
Days later, in his new version, his call was to make “a recommendation and a complaint.” It became clear that Infantino complied and acted even if it was to the detriment of football. “In the end, it was much better that things turned out this way, because there is no controversy. They won the match and our team had all its players,” Trump said to support the resolution he attributed exclusively to Infantino.
“If they hadn’t been allowed to play (Balogun), they would be saying: ‘We would have won the match if we had our best players.’ So Gianni made another of his many good decisions.”
Of course, the FIFA official showed submission at this event and praised that Trump promised to welcome the world and “you have welcomed,” with the exception of Africa’s best referee, Somali Omar Martan, who was forced to return home. He also made no mention of the two immigrants killed by border agents’ (ICE) gunfire, who since the tournament began have stepped up the fight against undocumented workers.
Trump commented that Infantino came to him during his first term to organize the World Cup. “He came with this crazy idea, I told him we were not a soccer country and it turned out that we were a soccer country,” he emphasized. “It has been perhaps the most successful sporting event in the history of the world,” he insisted, at which point he again brought up the falsehood that the 2020 elections were stolen from him.
In his speech, he referred to Spain and Argentina as “two impressive teams” that will play the final (he only spoke about Messi) and ended the event wishing both teams “good luck.” Trump will be at MetLife in New Jersey on Sunday.
