Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, has confirmed the “historic” oil agreement with the United States previously announced by Donald Trump on his Truth Social account. The Chavista leader thanks Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a statement for “their willingness in the development” of an alliance she describes in a statement as “a historic milestone in bilateral relations.”

Hours earlier, Donald Trump had loudly announced the agreement on his social networks: “Under my direction, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, in close collaboration with the highly respected acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, and through a partnership with the private sector, have secured for the United States majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of proven oil reserves in Venezuela, at no cost to the American taxpayer,” his message says.
“A huge win for both sides,” according to Marco Rubio

The Venezuelan leader, at the head of the government following the capture of Nicolás Maduro by the U.S. in January this year, explains that the agreement will “significantly increase oil production with the participation of private operators.”

Rodríguez noted that the development of 17 strategic fields is planned, with “a proven potential of 65 billion barrels of oil, an investment of more than 100 billion dollars, and more than 209 billion dollars in taxes for the state.”
Marco Rubio has described the agreement as “a huge win for both sides” in a message posted on his account on the social network X. Trump’s protégé assures that the pact will allow Washington to secure “stable, low-cost crude reserves in our hemisphere, and lower gasoline prices in our territory.”
