Five days after more than 70,000 immigrants entered Ceuta from Morocco, there are still consequences. One of them is the management of the migrant minors who have remained in the autonomous city, a circumstance that could reopen the regional debate about their reception since both Ceuta and Melilla have already exceeded their capacity. In this regard, the PP has left in the air what it will do, although Miguel Tellado has suggested that they will reject the reception.

“From the Popular Party, we urge the Government of Spain that those who have entered illegally leave through the same way they came and that the Government ensures they return through that border crossing to their country of origin,” said the PP secretary general during a visit to Vitoria. In this regard, according to Tellado, this “is not a migratory crisis,” but “a national security crisis.”
Tellado continued arguing that this “has nothing to do with previous situations,” referring to migratory crises that required automatic reception. Now, the Popular Party defends that an “invasion” has been recorded and, therefore, it is a “security crisis” and everything is the Government’s responsibility.
“The one who created the problem is the one who must solve it and it is called the Government of Spain, it is called Pedro Sánchez,” insisted Tellado. In this regard, both Ceuta and Melilla regret that the capacity to care for migrant minors is exceeded and that will probably reopen the debate about distribution in the different autonomous territories of Spain.
At this time, the coalition governments of PP and Vox will show strong resistance since both parties have signed an agreement to reject receiving more migrant minors. It should be remembered that Vox left the regional governments in July 2024 accusing the PP of accepting the reception of migrant minors. The responsibility for the care of minors is transferred to the autonomous communities.

For now, in any case, that debate has not opened and everything seems to indicate that care will be provided for now in Ceuta since the Government has announced that it mobilizes 25 million euros to care for the minors. In this regard, two educational centers have been enabled as places of care for the people.
In addition, Tellado has also asked Sánchez to “investigate responsibilities” and has pointed to two ministers. “It is evident that Minister Marlaska and Mrs. Margarita Robles should not remain in their positions. They are responsible for everything that has happened,” said Tellado, from Vitoria. “And, of course, if Sánchez is still the president of the Government, he should assume some kind of responsibility for everything that has happened,” he added.
Finally, Tellado also referred to Morocco to criticize the Government of Spain for its foreign policy. “Certainly, I think Morocco does not respect the Government of Pedro Sánchez because the Government of Pedro Sánchez never makes itself respected,” he said.
