The Secretary General of the Popular Party, Miguel Tellado, has called on Wednesday for the resignation of the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, following the publication by El Español of a police report pointing to Morocco as responsible for the massive border jump at the end of July.

The number two of the PP calls the Interior Minister “shameless, incompetent and liar” for now saying he was unaware of the report. In fact, the minister demanded early this morning by letter to the Director of the National Police, Francisco Pardo, that he inform him “as soon as possible” about the content of a report that the National Immigration and Borders Center (CENIF) would have sent to the National Court and that would attribute to Morocco the massive assault on the Ceuta border.
“Today Marlaska acts surprised by a Police report that warned of the invasion of Ceuta. He denied it for a month and has been exposed,” Tellado says in a message on the social network X. “Marlaska must resign for being shameless, incompetent and a liar. He cannot remain one minute longer in charge of the State Security Forces and Corps,” he adds.
Over the past weeks, Marlaska has defended that he had no information about what could happen at the Ceuta border at the end of July, against the opinion of the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, and has exonerated Morocco from having caused the human avalanche in Ceuta.
Jupol calls for resignations
The resignation request by the PP has not been the only one. The police union Jupol has also demanded not only the resignation of the Interior Minister but also of the Government Delegate in Ceuta, Miguel Ángel Pérez, and the Director General of the Police, Francisco Pardo, after the existence of reports and internal communications from the National Police itself warning of the possibility of an invasion of the autonomous city of Ceuta became known.

In a statement, the police union points out that since the end of July Jupol publicly warned that the situation in Ceuta was unsustainable and demanded an urgent reinforcement of human and material resources for the National Police. A request that was also forwarded by the Ceuta Assembly to the Ministry of the Interior and was rejected. For the union, “the Directorate General of the Police and the Ministry of the Interior were aware of this information before the invasion.”
Jupol assures that by not attending to the requests “the National Police officers and thousands of citizens were put at risk despite prior warnings” and recalls that “Morocco does not recognize Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla, a reality that makes a state policy and a firm response even more necessary to guarantee the security of both cities.”
Consequently, Jupol states, “political leaders must take responsibility and explain why, despite prior warnings, they did not take the necessary measures to protect the police and the population of Ceuta.”
