“They are forcing us to close a restaurant that our grandparents opened in 1955,” says Albert Casado, third generation at the helm of La Caleta, the establishment that started as a seasonal snack bar and, with hard work and dedication, became the family restaurant that has become a meeting point for various generations.

After 71 years of history, this restaurant specializing in rice dishes is forced to close at the request of the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea.
Located behind the train tracks, the restaurant is subject to a land lease contract for restaurant activity with Adif, to whom they pay rent punctually and semi-annually. Those responsible for La Caleta signed the last one in 2015 for 15 years, and in that aspect, everything is still in order.
However, according to Casado, the nightmare began in 2019 when they started receiving notifications asking them to reduce the size of the restaurant. “We’ve had seven years of lawyers, we put ourselves in the hands of architects, we presented a project but they rejected it,” clarifies the restaurateur.

Last February, La Caleta received a notice asking them to vacate the restaurant in one month; since then, they have been trying to resist. They argue that they have a valid contract and are not breaching anything. But the resistance has met with another notice announcing that on July 31, the police will seal the restaurant.
Comer has contacted the General Directorate of Coasts to find out the details but has not received a response from them.
“Personally, I think there’s something behind all this. Our lawyers have told us there’s a tender for a new restaurant on the table,” says a distressed Casado. “Here we are family, we have built a very strong team among us all, and if we close, I don’t know what we will do,” he adds.
